Sometimes I hear pastors say that we in this day and age don’t
suffer. That the people who were martyred for the sake of their faith in Jesus
were the ones that really suffered. Anything we go through is, they say, just whining
like a baby.
But I know that our suffering IS suffering. It’s real and we
are trained by it through the Holy Spirit.
My suffering is different from yours. I will probably never
go through what you went through. But it is still suffering. The suffering
Jesus talked about, and Peter, and Paul.
Never belittle someone’s suffering. Do not insult the work
of God in their life.
And always pray for them to be strong in the Lord.
Thank you, Father, for making sense of our suffering, for
redeeming it, and for making it count for something – an eternal something.

Some people say our pain don't hurt,
ReplyDeletethat we don't walk in martyrs' traces,
that our complaints are a hair-shirt
we put on to obtain the graces
of an old and honoured past
of which nothing remains today.
Hold on, Bubba, not so fast,
because evil is still in play.
Today you won't get crucified,
but 'Merry Christmas!' gets you fired,
and there is a rising tide
of hatred that has been inspired
by the nasty hipster crew
that one day hopes to slaughter you.
Excellent. Yup. "Merry Christmas" gets you fired ... I have a few stories, all in the past, and definitely suffering. Thank you for visiting! and especially for commenting - blessings
DeleteAmen!!!
ReplyDeletethat pastor is obviously not truly reading God's word then. Suffering is one of the ways we learn more to be like our Lord. FMF13
ReplyDeleteAmen. Thank you for this. We cannot compare suffering at all.
